Australian Marriage Equality (AME) has welcomed the appointment of Mr Ed Santow as the Australian Human Rights Commissioner.

“No one in Australia is more qualified than Ed Santow to take on the role of Human Rights Commissioner, or will bring more experience and skill to that role,” Australian Marriage Equality National Director Rodney Croome said.

“Throughout his career, Mr Santow has been a strong advocate of equality for all Australians.”

“As the CEO of the Public Interest Advocacy Centre, Mr Santow was instrumental in working with Australian Marriage Equality in removing legal impediments to Australian same-sex couples marrying overseas.”

“We would like to thank the out-going Human Rights Commissioner, Tim Wilson, for his strong support for marriage equality.”

“Australian Marriage Equality looks forward to maintaining our good working relationship with the Australian Human Rights Commission.”
