POLITICIANS from across the spectrum voiced their support for the NSW marriage equality campaign at the official start of the Sydney Mardi Gras festival at the weekend.

Members of the cross-party working group tasked with developing a bill that would allow gay couples to marry in this state addressed the crowd at Fair Day on Sunday.

The group includes Sydney independent MP Alex Greenwich, Coogee Liberal MP Bruce Notley-Smith and Upper House MPs Trevor Khan (Nationals), Penny Sharpe (Labor) and Cate Faehrmann (Greens).

Mr Greenwich, a former lobbyist, said the group’s draft state marriage equality bill was expected to be made public within weeks, with submissions to the parliamentary inquiry into same-sex marriage closing on March 1.
He said there was now a united front on marriage equality in NSW.
