LABOR Party factional leaders have been forced to rally behind Julia Gillard in a bid to avert a disastrous rejection of her position on gay marriage on the floor of this weekend’s party conference.
With the Left increasingly confident it has the numbers to carry its push for the party to recognise same-sex marriage, the Right last night moved decisively to protect the Prime Minister’s preferred position of a conscience vote.
