ONLY foreign diplomats and their families are exempt from taking part in the centenary national census tonight.

It is compulsory for mothers, fathers, hospital patients, prisoners, the homeless and the Prime Minister to answer the 60 questions on topics from transport to ethnicity, religion and income.

About 93 per cent of census forms had been delivered by yesterday.

Census field director David Nauenburg said the census helpline is being flooded with about 10,000 queries a day, ranging from ”what if I’m on an overnight cross-country flight?” to ”will I be dobbed in to the Tax Office?”
