The first same-sex marriage in an Australian UK consulate will take place tomorrow at 3pm in Sydney and will be followed by a media conference involving the newly-married couple.

The marrying couple are Australians with dual citizenship who have been together for 19 years.

After they emerge from the consulate at 3.30pm they will be available for interviews across the street in Macquarie Street Park.

At that stage the couple will no longer be legally married because Australian law fails to recognise marriages conducted under the laws of other countries if these marriages are between same-sex partners.

Also available for comment will be another couple intending to marry in the Sydney UK consulate and the national director of Australian Marriage Equality, Rodney Croome.

Media arrangement for the marriage ceremony itself have already been made. Due to limited space no additional media representation is available at the ceremony.

For more information contact Rodney Croome on 0409 010 668.
