Australian marriage equality advocates have welcomed a New Mexico Supreme Court decision making that state the 16th in the USA to allow same-sex couples to marry.

Australian Marriage Equality national director, Rodney Croome, said,

“New Mexico’s adoption of marriage equality is another sign of the unstoppable momentum of this important and urgent reform.”

“It also signifies that marriage equality is no longer isolated to a few east and west coast states in the US, but is a matter for the entire country.”

“The New Mexico decision will encourage Australian marriage equality supporters to keep on campaigning, despite the High Court overturing the ACT’s marriage equality law last week.”
