Stall: Campbelltown show, all weekend

Rally: Manly Council Chambers, 2pm Saturday

Giant wedding cake and free ice cream: Manly Wharf, 12-4pm Sunday

Rally: Sydney Town Hall, 12pm Sunday

From Western Sydney to the North Shore, advocates will be urging voters to support marriage equality this weekend.

For the first time, Australian Marriage Equality (AME) will have a stall at the Campbelltown Show, from 4pm this evening and then all day tomorrow and Sunday. AME NSW co-convener, Malcolm McPherson, said:

“There are many supporters of marriage equality in western Sydney and our stall is a way for them to find out how they can ‘vote for love’ on September 7th.”

On Saturday from 2pm there will be a rally for marriage equality at the Manly Corso in Tony Abbott’s electorate of Warringa. Organiser, Nathan Thomas said:

“It’s important to rally in Tony Abbott’s electorate because his failure to allow a conscience vote is the main obstacle to reform. There are many supporters of marriage equality in Tony Abbott’s electorate and this is a way for their voices to be heard”

On Sunday from 12-4pm at Manly Wharf, AME and Ben and Jerry’s will erect a giant wedding cake and be distributing information about the election and free “I DOugh” ice cream. AME deputy director, Ivan Hinton said:

“Our giant wedding cake was a huge hit in Pitt St Mall last week and we know it will attract attention in Manly too. The serious side is that we want supporters of marriage equality to know how their vote can help achieve this important reform.”

There will also be a marriage equality rally outside Sydney Town Hall at 12pm on Sunday. For more details go to www.caah.org.au
