Marriage equality Christmas campaign launched /
Supporters urged to start a conversation & give the gift of equality
Australian Marriage Equality has launched a campaign to encourage families to talk about marriage equality this Christmas.
AME has released a video in which high-profile supporters of reform explain why it is important to start one-to-one conversations about equality. Social media covers and e-cards are available with the same theme.
The campaign includes messages from Tasmanian Premier Lara Giddings, Senator Sarah Hanson-Young, Professor Kerryn Phelps, Carl Katter, Alex Greenwich and NSW Greens MLC Cate Faehrmann.
The group has also unveiled a shopping site that allows supporters to buy Christmas gifts that contribute directly to the marriage equality campaign.
AME national convener, Rodney Croome, said,
“Christmas is a time when family and friends gather together, making it the perfect time to spread the message about the importance of marriage equality.”
“We know from experience here and overseas that attitudes to marriage equality are shaped, more than anything else, by personal one-to-one conversations.”
“It doesn’t matter if you’re Tony Abbott’s sister, a Church parishoner, a farmer, or a mum or dad; the more people talking about marriage equality the harder it will be for our MPs to oppose reform.”
“We’ve made it easy with a set of social media e-cards that are downloadable from facebook.”
“This Christmas we also encourage marriage equality supporters to make a gift that will help our campaign.”
“We’ve made shopping for marriage equality quick and easy by establishing a new AME shopping site that is accessible through our main website.”
“Gifts include everything from buying social media ads and election voting guides through to sending the parents and children of same-sex couples to Canberra to lobby MPs.”
