JIM Wallace has the right, given free speech, to say what he likes. Julia Gillard has the equal right to refuse to lend prime ministerial authority to a conference held by the organisation he heads.
Of course, a PM’s attendance at a function does not mean endorsement of the host group’s views. But when the group’s chief has made offensive comments, both principle and political sense suggest it is wise to stay well away.
