A new advertisement combating myths about marriage equality has been sent to all federal and Tasmanian politicians. The full ad can be viewed here and is voiced by well-known actor Shane Jacobson.

Australian Marriage Equality national convener, Alex Greenwich, said,

“The ad is designed to combat myths about marriage equality in a clear and informative way.”

“It also carries an important message about how the underlying meaning of marriage in our society today is about two people sticking together for better and worse, and how same-sex relationships fall within this meaning.”

“We hope the ad will remind politicians that their decisions should be based on sound information not scare-mongering.”

The federal and Tasmanian parliaments are expected to vote on marriage equality within weeks.

Mr Greenwich also welcomed adoption of marriage equality as a plank in the US Democratic Party’s national platform.

The new platform follows from President Obama’s support for marriage equality earlier this year.

The Australian Labor Party changed its platform to support marriage equality in December last year.

“Marriage Equality is fast becoming a key policy for political parties around the world who want to prove they value families, equality, and fairness.” Mr Greenwich said.
