GLAMOROUS newsreader Narelda Jacobs has likened the same-sex marriage debate to the racial overtones that used to stigmatise interracial couples trying to wed.

Jacobs, the first openly gay newsreader, knows the pain her parents went through when they tied the knot.

“My mum is English-Irish and my dad is Aboriginal and even for her family at the time, it was a major issue to have an interracial marriage,” the face of Channel 10 said.
