Same-sex marriage advocates have called on federal coalition leader Tony Abbott to allow his MPs a conscience vote on the issue, after the Labor party passed major reforms at its national conference.
As Mr Abbott’s office told AAP that he would not be commenting on Saturday on the same-sex marriage issue, delegates at the conference in Sydney agreed to Prime Minister Julia Gillard’s proposal to allow a conscience vote on gay marriage.
