IT is a measure of the remarkable social change that has swept Australia in the past few decades that same-sex marriage is now a mainstream issue for calm and reasonable debate.
There are certainly plenty of differing opinions about whether gay and lesbian couples should have the right to marry — but this is no hot-headed ideological war. It has, largely, been a respectful discussion of ideas.
