SAME-sex couples in Queensland are more likely than those in other states to want to get married, according to a study of more than 2000 gay Australians.

The 2010 study found that 54 per cent of respondents wanted to get married and another 25 per cent desired an alternative form of marriage, such as a civil union.

Among Queensland respondents the number that wanted to get married rose to 58 per cent, University of Queensland social psychologist Sharon Dane says.
