It’s the controversial social issue that always seems to be on our national agenda but never gets resolved: gay marriage. We’ve seen heated political debates, noisy demonstrations, colourful campaigns, stacks of media coverage and even pressure to “get on with it” from visiting pop queen, Lady Gaga, during an interview on national television. Yet Australia seems to be stuck in an uncomfortable stalemate.

Neither of our major political parties currently supports marriage equality, but opinion polls show a growing number of Australians do. Indeed, in recent years, there’s been a sizeable shift towards giving same-sex couples the right to legally wed.
