The same-sex marriage debate continues as local Mount Isa residents call for a response from Mr Katter over concerns his opposition to gay marriage is causing more widespread issues.
James Newburrie says Mr Katter is using outdated beliefs to defend his bigotry. Mr Newburrie says Mr Katters use of negative language against both homosexuals and the debate on same-sex marriage is damaging to young people that may be questioning their sexuality.
This comes after Mr Katter offered one of his prized hats for auction which raised $2700 to support the fight against same-sex marriage.
