WA Opposition Leader Eric Ripper says he expects the majority of Labor delegates at Saturday’s Labor state conference to support his view that gay marriage should be allowed in Australia.

Speaking ahead of this weekend’s state conference, the WA Opposition leader said he believed the majority of Australians  supported gay marriage.

“I note from recent polling that my views are in the majority of those in society who support gay marriage and I expect similar feelings would be held by the majority of those delegates attending state conference,’’ Mr Ripper said.

“Of course, there will be those who disagree at the conference and it is important to remember that this is a federal issue and not a state one.

“However,  my personal opinion is that legislation supporting gay marriage would be a fair one and a step in the right direction towards less discrimination.”
