MPs in Perth and around Western Australia are hearing one overwhelming message from their constituents – “we don’t want same-sex couples to marry.”
Out in Perth recently discovered their local Senators and Members of Parliament in the Australian Labor Party, Liberal Party and Nationals Party had all received a large number of letters and emails advising against amending the Marriage Act.
A few of the MPs suspected the influence of right-wing campaigners. “The overwhelming majority of correspondence has been against same sex marriage,” confirmed Labor Senator Louise Pratt. “These things come in waves, and it’s very clear that the Christian lobby has an orchestrated campaign.”
