Prime Minister Julia Gillard dodged gay marriage activists in Sydney as she headed to The Sydney Institute annual dinner.

Ms Gillard, who is the dinner’s main speaker at Luna Park on Wednesday night, entered through the main entry instead of through a car park where about 50 demonstrators had gathered.

Organiser Alex Greenwich said he believed police had warned the prime minister about the location of the demonstrators.

“We came here tonight to put a face to the issue and it’s a face that Julia Gillard has continued to ignore,” Mr Greenwich told AAP.
