Gillard out of touch with the two thirds of ALP Voters who support equality

National Support remains high despite ACL Campaign

The release of today’s Nielsen poll on same-sex marriage shows support amongst ALP voters remains high at 65%, despite the Prime Minister’s continued opposition. The Nielsen poll also highlights that the national support has remained high at 57%, with Tasmania the most supportive state at 73%.

Alex Greenwich, National Convener of Australian Marriage Equality “Although the Prime Minister has set the debate for the ALP National Conference later this year, she can at the very least acknowledge that a majority of her party support equality and offer to approach the issue with an open heart and open mind”.

The national support for marriage equality has remained steady at 57% (36% opposed, down 1%), despite the launch of an anti-equality campaign by the Australian Christian Lobby.

Mr Greenwich: “The poll shows that the Australian public has rejected the ACL’s scare tactics, including the false claim that same-sex marriage would lead to polygamy”.
