With political interest in the rights of Gay and Lesbian people in the area of marriage equality mounting, we wish to announce the formation of a group of committed Christians whose aim is to further this cause.

Contrary to popular perception, which is reinforced by the pronouncement of certain denominational representatives or lobby groups, not all Christians are dogmatically opposed to marriage equality. Indeed, we are Christians who believe that love is a gift from God and that God is in the love we have for one another. We believe that Jesus lived out God’s love in his ministry of acceptance, inclusion, healing and life-changing love for all people.  Consistent with that, we believe that where two otherwise unrelated adults love each other and choose to commit to a mutual and exclusive relationship, they should have the same rights and responsibilities under the law, regardless of gender or sexuality.

With members drawn from a range of Christian denominations, Christians for Gay Marriage (SA)aims to be a visible and recognizable presence within this debate, demonstrating to politicians and the public that many Christians do support Gay Marriage. We will lobby Parliament to change the law so that all people are equal in love. We also intend to counter the misinformation often espoused by religious conservatives.
