Hundreds of thousands are expected to watch tonight’s Sydney Mardi Gras Parade and cheer in support for marriage equality for all Australians.

Alex Greenwich, National Convener of Australian Marriage Equality: “Tonight’s Mardi Gras will deliver Julia Gillard a clear challenge: will you be the Prime Minister that delivers equality to loving gay and lesbian couples, or will you follow in Howard’s and Rudd’s footsteps and perpetuate discrimination against us in the Marriage Act?”

Mr Greenwich will be joined by Professor Kerryn Phelps, Jackie Stricker-Phelps, Senator Sarah Hanson-Young, Geoff Field, Jason Kerr and Geoff Thomas on the ‘Australian Marriage Equality Now’ (AMEN) float at the parade. In total, 16 floats and thousands of marchers will hit the streets to demand equality. They are expected to be cheered on by an audience estimated in the hundreds of thousands.

Mr Greenwich said: “Julia Gillard can not ignore that clear majority of Australians that support equality for all loving couples, and tonight will show we are only going to get louder.”
