On Feb. 23, the Obama administration made a historical announcement that it would no longer defend the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), a federal law that bans the recognition of same-sex marriage.

Unlike previous decisions surrounding gay marriage support, Republicans were cautiously muted when it came to objections about the president’s decision to no longer fight for DOMA.
