Australian Marriage Equality (AME) has today welcomed the Australian Council of Trade Unions’ (ACTU) official support of marriage equality for every Australian.
“The ACTU has reflected the views and values of their members in backing marriage equality and a fair go for every Australian”, Australian Marriage Equality National Spokesperson, Shirleene Robinson said.
“The members, their friends and families understand that this reform is about people, not politics, and affording every Australian the dignity and respect they deserve.
“Whatever the path to marriage equality we look forward to working alongside the ACTU to achieve equality for all.
“In supporting marriage equality, the ACTU joins a diverse range of organisations across the nation from sporting codes, churches, corporate Australia, and country women’s associations.
“Achieving marriage equality is about ensuring everyone has the same opportunities to reach their full potential. It’s about members of our families, our friends, neighbours and workmates”, Shirleene Robinson concluded.
