Marriage equality advocates have welcomed a new political party which aims to achieve equality for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and intersex people, including in marriage.

The Australian Equality Party today announced its launch on February 2nd in Melbourne (see media release below).

Australian Marriage Equality national director, Rodney Croome, said,

“A political party with marriage equality as a central plank takes the campaign for reform to a new level.”

“Marriage equality has public opinion on its side, but it also needs groups like the Equality Party that seek to directly influence the political landscape in order to achieve change.”

“The fact that the Equality Party is made up of everyday Australians tired of waiting for marriage equality shows the level of concern in the community and will inspire others to take action.”
