A new Australian Government report, showing children raised by same-sex couples do as well as other children, has “blown out of the water” the main argument against marriage equality according to advocates for the reform.

The Australian Institute of Family Studies, the Australian Government’s official family research body, has issued a comprehensive review of gay parenting studies that finds children raised by same-sex couples have the same outcomes as other children and in some regards benefit from higher quality parenting.

Australian Marriage Equality national director, Rodney Croome, said,

“The main argument against marriage equality – that children do best with a father and a mother – has been blown out of the water.”

“It’s clear from this report that love is what makes a difference to children’s outcomes, not parental gender.”

“There is now no excuse to refuse those children being raised by same-sex couples the benefits of having married parents.”
