The High Court will release its decision about the constitutional validity of the ACT’s Marriage Equality Act today at or just after 12.15pm.

Representatives of Australian Marriage Equality and couples who have married under the Act since Saturday, will hold a media conference outside the Court at 12.50pm to discuss the decision.

The High Court will either uphold the ACT law, or strike it down in part or full. The Court may also give guidance on whether states and territories can legislate for same-sex marirages in a different form, and whether the federal parliament has the power to legislate for same-sex marriages.

Australian Marriage Equality national director, Rodney Croome, said,

“Regardless of what the Court decides the fact same-sex couples have married on Australian soil has been a turning point in the debate from which there is no going back.”
