A gay and lesbian advocacy group says a marriage equality flyer circulating in at least three Australian states has hit a new low when it comes to political flyers.

Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) say they will be seeking legal advice about an anti same-sex marriage flyer depicting a crying toddler asking for her mum and dad.

They say it is disturbing and insulting to same-sex parents and could be in breach of anti-discrimination laws.

PFLAG national spokeswoman Shelley Argent says the flyer being distributed in Queensland urges constituents to vote against Labor and Liberal candidates who support marriage equality.

Ms Argent says the flyer is circulating in the Queensland seats of Moreton and Brisbane, where Labor candidate Graham Perrett and LNP candidate Teresa Gambaro have publicly supported marriage equality.

She says similar flyers are also circulating in New South Wales and Victoria.

Ms Argent says the individuals who have authorised the flyers claim to be acting alone.

However, Ms Argent says she believes it is part of an organised, well-funded campaign and wants those responsible to make themselves known.
