Dannii Minogue is the latest in a long line of Australian celebrities pushing for the Australian government to legalise gay marriage.

Following Confidential’s story on Darren Hayes marrying his husband Richard Cullen for the third time following a change to the laws in California, Minogue tweeted her support for the issue.

“Some people are gay – get over it. #equalmarriage: girls/girls & guys/guys #putaringonit!!!!!!” she posted on Twitter yesterday.

Other well-known Australians to support the widely debated issue include Magda Szubanski, Olivia Newton-John and Hugh Jackman.

Last year, Newton-John put out a statement on the topic.

“With respect to marriage equality, I believe that no one has the right to judge and deny couples who love each other the ability to make a marriage commitment,” Newton-John said. “Love is love.”

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd declared last month he was the country’s first pro-marriage equality prime minister and was committed to marriage law reform.

Despite having a gay sister and young daughters who support marriage equality, Opposition Leader Tony Abbott continues to stand firm in his opposition to changing the current policy.
