LIBERAL frontbencher Malcolm Turnbull yesterday refrained from crossing the floor on same-sex marriage, but said he would have supported the changes to the Marriage Act if given a free vote.

One of 15 speakers on Labor MP Stephen Jones’s same-sex marriage bill yesterday in parliament, Mr Turnbull said he would have voted differently if Tony Abbott had allowed a conscience vote: “Were a free vote to be permitted, I would support legislation which recognised same-sex couples as being described as a marriage.”
