SAME-sex married couples across Australia will be counted for the first time in this week’s release of national census figures.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) will reveal key results from the 2011 census tomorrow morning, including the number of same-sex couples who identified themselves as being married.

“I think it will be a reality check for the decision-makers in Canberra,” said Alex Greenwich, national convener for the Australian Marriage Equality lobby group.
