TONY EASTLEY: Three hundred thousand people have used an online poll to tell a federal parliamentary inquiry what they think about two proposed pieces of legislation which would legalise same-sex marriage.

One bill is from Greens MP Adam Bandt and independent Andrew Wilkie, the other from Labor’s Stephen Jones.

While many MPs are yet to declare how they’ll vote, it appears both bills are doomed to fail.
