A BRISBANE same-sex couple say their dream of celebrating their love and commitment in front of family and friends has been crushed by the Newman Government’s decision to scrap state-endorsed ceremonies.

Heather Corkhill, 29, and her partner of nine years, Qingwen Huang, also 29, were “devastated” when they were forced to cancel their special event, scheduled for early 2013, after hearing yesterday’s announcement.

The pair had hosted an “engagement dinner”, picked out dresses, asked a close friend to act as a celebrant and started planning a Mexican honeymoon.
