A number of New South Wales Government MPs have spoken in favour of gay marriage during a debate on the issue in State Parliament.

Unlike similar debates in Federal Parliament, both sides of the NSW Upper House were given a conscience vote on the motion to support gay marriage and call on the Federal Government to change the Marriage Act.

The motion was moved by Greens MP Cate Faehrmann.
