US President Barack Obama’s “evolving” position on same sex marriage ended when he declared his support for equality and fairness, prompting Diane Sawyer to call it a historical political and cultural moment.

Late last night (local time) and just one day after North Carolina voted to ban same sex unions, it appears this may have prompted the President to reiterate a position he was first quoted back 1996, as being in favour of.

Labor MP Stephen Jones, who is the sponsor of a private member’s bill in support of full marriage equality, welcomed Mr Obama’s change of position in an interview with QNews this morning.
