Deborah Owen and Peita Richards no longer feel like second class citizens.
The Gold Coast couple has become the first to have a legally recognised same sex relationship in Queensland, after the state’s first civil union in Brisbane.
Ms Owen says she has been best friends with Ms Richards for 29 years, and in a relationship with her for three.
