In a landmark move at its National Conference the Labor Party has shifted its position on the marriage question. The party’s platform will now be to support Gay marriage but it will allow members a conscience vote when a bill comes to the floor of parliament, which it surely will.
Opposition to change at the conference was highlighted in a speech by Joe de Bruyn of Australia’s largest union, the Shoppies, covering retail workers and others.
