LIBERAL senator Simon Birmingham has called on Tony Abbott to allow a conscience vote on same-sex marriage, saying it would be “in the best traditions of the party”.
The South Australian senator is one of a number of Coalition members who have spoken out for a conscience vote on the issue since Julia Gillard announced her intention to seek one.
