TWENTY-FOUR hours before Labor’s national conference, concerns are growing that Julia Gillard faces defeat over same-sex marriage, both on changing the party platform and on her proposed compromise of a conscience vote.

It appears the Prime Minister’s backers have already conceded she may be defeated on the floor of the conference on a general motion supporting same-sex marriage, with an amendment to change the party platform likely to succeed.
