MOUNT Isa gay rights activist James Newburrie has hit his target of 32,001 names on a petition to recognise gay marriage in Australia.
Mr Newburrie started his campaign in September after Federal Member for Kennedy Bob Katter made comments deriding gay marriage as “worthy of ridicule”.
Mr Katter’s comments came soon after he accepted a petition of 32,000 names in opposition to gay marriage.
