COUPLES who said they were in a same-sex marriage in the recent national census would not be classified as married, a parliamentary hearing has been told.
But a senior official with the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Paul Lowe told the Senate Economics committee that the statistician felt it had an obligation to return the census data on same-sex marriage to the community.
