CANBERRA: In what was unanimously agreed to be a historic occasion, the nation’s first Parliamentary Friendship Group for LGBTI Australians held its inaugural gathering at a reception inside Parliament House last night, drawing a great number of leading politicians from all sides.

In attendance to show their support were the likes of high-profile Liberal MP Malcolm Turnbull, Greens deputy leader Christine Milne and Labor MPs Anthony Albanese, Peter Garrett, Stephen Conroy and Penny Wong.

Olympic gold medallist Matthew Mitcham and senior Telstra executive Paul Geason both gave rousing and passionate speeches.
