JAMES Newburrie’s plans to host a gay rights rally in Mount Isa have hit a speed bump with Mount Isa City Council refusing to give its support to the event without public liability insurance.
Mr Newburrie said he had contacted two insurance companies who advised insurance was not provided for political rallies.
Mayor John Molony, who had no knowledge that council had refused to process Mr Newburrie’s application when contacted, said he supported the rights of his constituents to exercise their political freedoms.
