In 1989 Bob Katter infamously claimed that there were no homosexuals living in his electorate – promising to walk ‘backwards from Bourke to Brisbane’ if any were found.
Paradoxically, by that standard I am a mythical creature – an openly gay man living in Mr. Katter’s electorate. One year ago I was offered a choice; a choice of whom I thought should represent my community.
