Rally calls for gay marriage equality

Rainbow flags and feather boas were all the rage, as more than 1000 gay marriage supporters braved chilly weather to protest in Melbourne.

The crowd or more than 1000 cheered as speakers criticised changes to the Marriage Act brought in by the John Howard-led government seven years ago on August 13.

Despite the overcast weather, Melissa Reynolds and her partner Kylie Mailo who have been together for nearly five years, joined Saturday’s protest to show their support for gay marriage.

Hundreds rally for same-sex marriage

Hundreds of same-sex marriage advocates, some dressed as Jesus Christ and the Pope, have gathered in Brisbane as part of a national day of protest.

Gay and lesbian rights’ protests were held across the country on Saturday ahead of the ALP National Conference in December.

Queensland Greens Senator Larissa Waters was among the speakers at the rally in Brisbane’s Queens Park.

Marriage equality rally held in Sydney

Marriage equality supporters have rallied in Sydney as part of a national day of protest across the country.

Hundreds of supporters gathered outside Town Hall to protest against the amendment to the Marriage Act banning same sex marriage, passed by the Howard Government in 2004.

“This is the seventh year we’ve gathered on this place and called for something very simple, which marriage equality,” NSW Greens MP David Shoebridge told the crowd on Saturday afternoon.
