Labor’s national executive has formally passed responsibility for reforming the party to December’s national conference.

Julia Gillard will challenge members in Queensland today to ask themselves why they joined the party as she champions changes to make the party more engaged with the community.

But a motion to support same-sex marriage has been moved to tomorrow, amid claims the party’s Right is attempting to stymie debate on the controversial issue.

After the Victorian Labor state conference failed to raise a quorum to debate same-sex marriage, when the issue was raised in a motion in the last session of their May state conference, Queensland’s left factions were fighting last night to put the motion on the agenda today.
