Advocates for same-sex marriage have issued an invitation to Gympie Catholic priest, Fr Pat Cassidy, and Member for Wide Bay Warren Truss to debate the issue.
Spokesperson for Australian Marriage Equality Peter Furness said it was important Gympie residents had an opportunity to hear both sides of the issue.
“Gympie is in the global headlines, thanks to this issue, so it’s only fair the people of Gympie have a chance to hear both sides and ask questions of those who are speaking out publicly,” Mr Furness said.
“We would welcome an opportunity to debate Fr Cassidy and Mr Truss as the two most high-profile local leaders opposing marriage equality.”
